When I started writing this book, I was disappointed with the way the context behind this word was being demonized. I remember when I first heard the term. It was akin to be “woken and alert” to what was going on.
Even back then I remember thinking that this word was going to become a political football in the future. I was right. And yes, after all these years it is still frustrating how the goal post keeps shifting away from the proper context.
The term was mean to provide awareness to a disenfranchised part of our society. Anything malign about it is pure spin. Thank you for taking the time to read my words, I don’t take for granted the fact you’re spending these moments with me. HLC
