I love all of Sammy’s pieces, but this I have to admit is my all-time favorite.  Sammy got inspiration from one of her toys, and she brought it to life!

Sammy BeeZee – First Stand-alone mixed media piece for 2021

Perhaps the most enigmatic picture Sammy has created to date.   She actually took three days to work on this picture. Normally she just goes nuts in one sitting or a few sittings on the same day.  This is the first mixed media piece she has created.  The base she chose was all watercolor, which she worked on day one and two, and then added a layer of glow acrylic on day three.  The first day she mostly put a very ‘red’ color base on the canvas.  The second day she started adding all these textures.  The watercolor and canvas gave it that hazy mysterious look by the third day… after the watercolor had a chance to dry and settle over the canvas for a couple of days.  Sammy did sign her picture on day two, but then this morning she decided to add a layer of acrylic glow with three different light color glow acrylic paints and a big brush.

Sammy always brings a choice of toys with her to the car whenever we go for a ride.  This time she left this little guy in my car, but she was playing with it a couple of days ago when we went to the car wash, put gas, and enjoyed an aimless ride to get out of the house.  It’s too cold to do anything, and with COVID it is not really a good idea to go anywhere anyway.  But she does love a car ride every now and then.  I think this little guy was the inspiration for this piece.

Inspiration:  This was an interesting piece for Sammy.  She actually took three days to complete this picture.  And she depleted all the rest of her original watercolor set.  At first, I was not sure where this dragon idea came from… then I realized it must be that little glowing “dinosaur-looking” toy she was playing in my car the same day she started painting this piece.  The toy does glow mostly blue, and then suddenly red before it stops glowing… and that painting is probably Sammy’s imagination running wild for that brief moment the toy glows red.  The concrete depiction of the dragon is very elusive, and almost enigmatic… as most of Sammy’s pictures, this one also trends on the abstract… at first, I thought I was looking at our schnauzer, Aki… and if you see it from a weird angle, almost seems like she’s pictured there.  But the more intensely I look at the picture, the more I see the dragon hanging out in a smoky field.  When it comes to Sammy pictures, the more you look at them, and shift to different lights and angles to look at her pictures, the more stuff comes up.  I don’t know how she does that.  I’m just very proud of her.
